Montserrat is located in the Caribbean Sea of the North American Continent, with a population of 5,164, making it the
230th largest national population. Its capital is Plymouth however it was abandoned in 1995 due to the eruption of
Soufriere Hill Volcano. Its de facto capital is Brades Estate, with a population of approximately 1,000. The country
encompasses 102 square kilometers making it the 219th largest country in total area. It shares boundaries with
Caribbean Sea.
Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom is recognized as the Chief of State and achieves that status through heredity
and holds that position for life or abdication. She is represented by Governor Governor Adrian Davis. Premier Rueben
T. Meade is recognized as the Head of Government and attains that status following legislative elections where the
leader of the majority party usually becomes chief minister. Its form of government is an overseas territory of the
United Kingdom and they celebrate the creation of their constitution on 19th of December 1989 and operated under
Montserrat Constitution Order 2010, effective 1 September 2011.
The languages commonly or officially spoken are English. It counts among its major religions Anglican, Methodist,
Roman Catholic, Pentecostal, Seventh-Day Adventist and other Christian denominations. As sources of mass
communication it has 1 AM, 2 FM and 1 Television stations.
Major geographical features are the lava dome in English's Crater of the Soufriere Hill Volcano, its highest point at 930
meters and Caribbean Sea, its lowest point at 0 meters. Its principal waterway is Caribbean Sea, which measures 40
kilometers of coastline.
Major industries providing for the bulk of their Gross Domestic Product (GDP) are tourism, rum, textiles and
electrical appliances. Its official currency is East Caribbean Dollar.

three major volcanic centers of differing ages.
