
Overseas Collectivity of Saint Barthelemy is an archipelago located in the northern Leeward Islands of the Caribbean Sea of
the North American Continent, with a population of 7,332, making it the 228th largest national population. Its capital and
largest city is Gustavia, with a total population of 2,300. The country encompasses 54.4 square kilometers making it the
231st largest country in total area. It shares boundaries with the Caribbean Sea and lies east of the United States Virgin
Islands..
President of France Francois Hollande is recognized as the Chief of State achieves that status through popular vote and
holds that position and is eligible for a second term. He is represented by Prefect Philippe Chopin. President of the
Territorial Council Bruno Magras is recognized as the Head of Government and achieves that status by majority vote of the
members of the Council and holds that position for a five-year term. Its form of government is an overseas collectivity of
France and they celebrate the creation of their constitution on the 4 October 1958.
The languages commonly or officially spoken are French (official), and English. It counts among its major religions Roman
Catholic, Protestant, and Jehovah's Witness. As sources of mass communication it has 3 local radio stations.
Major geographical features are Morne du Vitet, its highest point at 286 meters and Caribbean Sea, its lowest point at 0
meters. Its principal waterway is Caribbean Sea, which measures 35 kilometers of coastline.
Major industries providing for the bulk of their Gross Domestic Product (GDP) are tourism, light industry, and
manufacturing. Its official currency is the Euro
