Republic of Kosovo is located in the southeast of the European Continent, with a population of 1,804,838, making it the
14th largest national population. Its capital and largest city is
Pristina with a total population of 550,000. The country
encompasses 10,887 square kilometers making it the 161st largest country in total area. It shares boundaries with Serbia,
Macedonia, Albania and Montenegro.

President Fatmir Sejdiu is recognized as the Chief of State and achieves that status through election by the Kosovo
Assembly and holds that position for five years.  Prime Minister Hashim Thaci is recognized as the Head of Government
and achieves that status through election by the Kosovo Assembly and holds that position. Its form of government is a
republic and they celebrate the creation of their constitution on 17th of February 2008.

The languages commonly or officially spoken are Albanian, Serbian, Bosniak, Turkish, and Roma. It counts among its
major religions Muslim, Serbian Orthodox, and Roman Catholic. As sources of mass communication it has 1 AM, 5 FM, 0
Short Wave and 1 Television stations.

Major geographical features are Gjeravica/Deravica, its highest point at 2,562 meters and the Drini i Bardhe/Beli Drim, its
lowest point at 280 meters. Its principal waterway is South Gjeravica/Deravica which measures 2,562 kilometers.

Major industries providing for the bulk of their Gross Domestic Product (GDP) are mineral mining, construction materials,
base metals, leather, machinery, and appliances. Its official currency is Euro.

Here’s something you may not know about Kosovo. Kosovo is the newest republic achieving internationally recognized
independence from Serbia on 17th of February 2008.

On February 17th 2008 the brave little country of Kosovo claimed its place among the nations of the
powerful continent of Europe. One unique thing I've found out is that all the cites (on the map anyways) all
have two names. I must say from the few pictures my Father and I gathered of  the place, is that Kosovo is
as beautiful as its neighbors from the former Yugoslavia. If you ever get the chance to visit Southeast
Europe please visit young Kosovo and take some good photos and then send me a link please. I'll make
certain to post it here.
