Republic of Maldives is located in the south of the Asian Continent, with a population of 396,334, making it the 174th largest
national population. Its capital and largest city is
Male with a total population of 103,693. The country encompasses 300
square kilometers making it the 204th largest country in total area. It shares boundaries with Laccadive Sea, Indian Ocean,
and the Arabian Sea.

President Mohamed "Anni" Nasheed is recognized as the Chief of State and Head Of Government and, along with Vice
President Dr. Mohammed Waheed Hassan Maniku, achieves that status, according to the new constitution,  by direct vote,
holds that position for five years and is eligible for a second term.. Its form of government is a republic and they celebrate the
creation of their constitution on 7 August 2008.

The languages commonly or officially spoken are Maldivian Dhivehi and English. It counts among its major religion Sunni
Muslim. As sources of mass communication it has 1 AM, 1 FM, 1 Short Wave and 1 Television stations.

Major geographical features are unnamed location on Wilingili Island in the Addu Atoll, its highest point at 2.4 meters and the
Indian Ocean, its lowest point at 0 meters. Its principal waterway is the Indian Ocean, which measures 644 kilometers of
coastline.

Major industries providing for the bulk of their Gross Domestic Product (GDP) are fish processing, tourism, shipping, boat
building, coconut processing, garments, woven mats, rope, handicrafts, coral and sand mining. Its official currency is the
Maldivian Rufiyaa.

Maldives is full of resorts ... and ... you can bring your kids along. If I were to visit I would like to see and do
the following: take more time to see all of the atolls, relax on one of the resorts if we can, dive through all the
reefs, walk around Male, hopefully swim with the manta rays, climb around Wilingili Island, catch some sun. I
hope you can find some time to visit Maldives and actually de-stress and stretch out.
