Republic of Moldova is located in the east of the European Continent, with a population of 4,317,483, making it the 124th
largest national population. Its capital and largest city
Chisinau with a total population of 911,400. The country
encompasses 33,843 square kilometers making it the 138th largest country in total area. It shares boundaries with Ukraine
and Romania.

Acting President Mihai Ghimpu is recognized as the Chief of State and achieved that status when, as Parliamentary
Speaker, he suceeded President Vladimir Voronin following his 11 September 2009 resignation until presidential elections
can be held.  Prime Minister Vladimir Filat is recognized as the Head of Government and, along with Deputy Prime Minister
and Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Iurie Leanca  and Deputy Prime Ministers Valeriu Lazar, Ion
Negre and Victor Osipov, achieves that status through designation by the President upon consultation with parliament
followed by a Vote of Confidence and holds that position four years. Its form of government is a republic and they
celebrate the creation of their constitution on 29th of July 1994.

The languages commonly or officially spoken are Moldovan, Russian and Gagauz. It counts among its major religions
Eastern Orthodox, Jewish, Baptist and other faiths. As sources of mass communication it has 2 AM, 29 FM and 40
Television stations.

Major geographical features are Dealul Balanesti, its highest point at 430 meters and Dniester River, its lowest point at 2
meters. Its principal waterway is Dniester River, which measures 424 kilometers.

Major industries providing for the bulk of their Gross Domestic Product (GDP) are sugar, vegetable oil, food processing,
agricultural machinery; foundry equipment, refrigerators and freezers, washing machines; hosiery, shoes and textiles. Its
official currency is Moldovan Leu.

Here’s something you may not know about Moldova. The poorest nation in Europe, Moldova became the first former
Soviet state to elect a Communist as its president in 2001.

Moldova was the first European country I have gotten to report on for at least four days which I find kind of
amusing. If we were to go I would like to get more photos of the high point. I think that some of the people
here look like they may have some Hispanic features. I hope you can visit this beautiful yet poor European
country and help them as much as you can for as long as you are staying there.
