Land Sint Maarten is an island (Bonaire, Curacao, Saba, Sint Maarten and Sint Eustatius) located in the Leeward Islands of
the Caribbean Sea of the North American Continent, with a population of 37,429, making it the 211th largest national
population. Its capital and largest city is
Philipsburg, with a total population of 125,000. The country encompasses 34
square kilometers making it the 236th largest country in total area. It shares boundaries with the Caribbean Sea and lies east
of the United States Virgin Islands..

Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands is recognized as the Chief of State and achieves that status through heredity and holds
that position for life or abdication. She is represented by Governor General Eugene Holiday. Prime Minister Sarah Wescot-
Williams is recognized as the Head of Government and achieves that status following legislative elections when the leader of
the majority party is usually elected Prime Minister by the Staten (the unicameral parliament) and holds that position four
years. Its form of government is a parliamentary constituent country within the Kingdom of the Netherlands with full
autonomy in internal affairs granted in 2010 and they celebrate the creation of their constitution on the 10th of October
2010.

The languages commonly or officially spoken are Papiamento, English, Dutch, Spanish, Creole and French. It counts
among its major religions Roman Catholic, Pentecostal, Protestant, Seventh-Day Adventist, Jewish, other, unspecified and
no faiths. As sources of mass communication it has 8 AM, 19 FM and 3 Television stations.

Major geographical features are Mount Flagstaff, its highest point at 386 meters and Caribbean Sea, its lowest point at 0
meters. Its principal waterway is Caribbean Sea, which measures 364 kilometers of coastline.

Major industries providing for the bulk of their Gross Domestic Product (GDP) are tourism, light industry, and
manufacturing. Its official currency is Netherlands Antillean Guilder

Here’s something you may not know about Sint Maarten. The island is a divided possession of the Netherlands and France
and is the world's smallest landmass shared by two separate governments.
Sint Maarten is the smallest landmass in the world shared by two countries; half by the Dutch and half by
France. They have wild donkeys all over the place!  I really recommend Sint Maarten in your travel plans..
